      I purchased one of the vertical decorative pieces and made a silicone mold of it to create the others out of resin to keep the weight down. The top and bottom rails are just 1x2" of pine with a decorative routed edge.

    So I'm looking to make a wall in my room to replicate the look of a Galaxy's Edge stone wall. I'm thinking of using this method. However, I'm curious to know if this method with give the foam a solid coat that feels like stone. Ive heard tile mortar works great for hardcoating foam, but i also dont want to lose any of that stone detail that comes from the water and torch method. Any recommendations? Thanks for sharing.

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps 3 дня назад

      You could follow this exact method and use the same masonry sealer (Drylok Original) to paint it and give it that stone-like texture. Plus you can have the Drylok tinted to a sandy color of your choosing.

    I've always had problems with FCG mechanisms--they rarely survive one night. A problem you didn't mention but I've seen is the fishing line wearing out and breaking from rubbing against various parts of the mechanism. I'd be interested to hear if yours does the same after a few days of running.

  • @kurtkyre

    Bearings on the pivot points would help immensely. Also for any holes the line is passing through, those brass compression fittings have a perfectly flanged brass tube that can be glued into place and creates a smooth rounded edge for the line to ride on. Also, look into abrasion resistant line like dyneema or spectra. It is the strongest line you'll find. It even has a higher tensile strength than steel braided cable
